The wallplate 10k pot is the right solution when the speed control knob needs to be accessible to the occupant in a room, corridor, or plant room wall. But when the speed reference needs to live inside a control panel, on the DIN rail, the wallplate variant isn’t the right fit. That’s what the DIN rail series is for.
All three DIN rail variants do the same core job: provide a manually adjustable 0-10V DC signal to control the speed of an EC fan or VSD. The difference is how many fans they control and whether they need to switch between BMS and manual.
Single pot
One 10k pot on a DIN rail module. One fan. The knob sets the speed reference, the signal goes to the fan or VSD control input. Straightforward.
This is useful when you want a fixed or infrequently adjusted speed setpoint managed from inside the panel not from a wall in the occupied space. Carpark exhaust fans, plant room supply, roof exhaust on a small commercial building. Set the speed at commissioning, lock the panel.
Two-pot version
Two independent 10k pots on a single DIN rail module. Two separate 0-10V outputs, two separate fans or VSDs. Keeps things tidy two speed references in the space of one module rather than two separate single-pot modules wired side by side.
Useful when you have a supply and return fan pair running independently, or two zones on separate EC fans that need different setpoints.
Auto/manual variant
This one is more involved and worth understanding if you’re building panels for BMS-integrated systems.
In auto mode, the BMS 0-10V signal passes through to the fan. The fan responds to whatever the BMS sends CO2, temperature, occupancy, or schedule. Normal operation.
Switch to manual and the pot takes over. The BMS signal is disconnected and the pot output drives the fan instead. You set the speed from the panel.
Flip back to auto when you’re done. The BMS resumes control.
This is a clean alternative to improvised solutions a toggle switch and a pot wired in parallel with the BMS output, with all the shorting and interference risks that come with it. The auto/manual module handles the switching properly in one unit.
Common situations where it matters: commissioning before the BMS is live, fault diagnosis when you need to eliminate the BMS signal as a variable, or any installation where the site manager needs a reliable local override without touching the BMS configuration.
DIN rail vs wallplate ?
If the person adjusting the speed is an occupant or building user, use the wallplate. If the speed is set by an installer or controls engineer and then left alone or needs to be part of a panel build use the DIN rail version.
